Olympic Excellence Series

For the Past 3 days I have been in Mississauga at the Olympic Excellence series. With 8 months (249 days to be exact) remaining before the London 2012 Olympic Games, the objective of the OES was to prepare for the “Best Summer Ever!” The Canadian Olympic Committee’s goal was to provide us (the athletes) with skills and strategies that can be used to maximize performance in preparation for the games; and at the games.

I went into the weekend not knowing what to expect and came out with a enthusiastic, entertaining, beneficial experience. My favorite aspect of the weekend was the team building unity among the athletes. The atmosphere was such that we all became friends supportive of each-others journey to the games. The team at the games will be Proud, Unbreakable, WorldClass(y), Fierce, and Relentless.

Another hi-light of the OES was the athlete panels. We were able to listen to 4 winter (Alex Bilodeau, Melissa Hollingsworth, John Montgomery, Kristina Groves) and 4 summer (Alexandre Despatie, Emilie Heymans, Adam Van Koeverden, Lesley Thompson) share there Olympic experience, and wisdom.

I am leaving this weekend with many new friends and a sense of confidence that I will be prepared going into the London Olympics. Nevertheless even more motivated than ever!

Now back to Charlotte, NC for a week of training, and a thanksgiving race!
