Worlds Debrief

Now that I have cycled through the roller coaster of emotions after my race I am able to reflect on it with an open mind.
Most likely you have seen the results of the World Championships and noticed that it was disappointing for the entire Canadian Team. I ended up in 50th place. This is possibly my worst international result ever. For days after the race I was devastated, I had a lump in the bottom of my stomach, and slowly the implications of my poor result hit me one by one like a brick wall.

But now I am thinking much more clearly. I have met with coaches to talk about it; and I can confidently say that my result is not a direct link to my potential. I had a bad race, and as an athlete that is something I will deal with in my career. I can look back at the race and reflect. I will reflect on what changes to make in my race preparations. I will reflect on what I need to focus on this winter in my training. And I will take the race as motivation to push myself to be a better kayaker.

If I put results to the side I am happy with the experience of World Championships. This was the biggest race I have ever competed in. The atmosphere was electric. There were over 30,000 spectators, including the president of Slovakia. But im happy to be home in Canada- even if its cold ;)
